Tucson economy: Area ranks high for health-insured

Health insurance is a key way for individuals to pay for routine health care and protect against potential financial hardship caused by major health problems. It also expands access, reduces health risk through preventative care, and improves outcomes. In 2015, the Tucson Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) ranked fourth out of 12 western metropolitan areas in health insurance coverage. Tucson’s rate of 86.7% fell just below the nation (87.0%). Since the implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the rate of coverage in the Tucson MSA has increased.
