Tucson's Health: Health Insurance Coverage

In 2016, the Tucson Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) tied Albuquerque for fifth out of 12 western metropolitan areas in health insurance coverage. Tucson’s rate of 87.7 percent fell below the national rate of 88.3 percent. Further, Tucson and the state of Arizona had fewer insured children than the nation by nearly four percentage points. Health insurance is a key way for individuals to pay for routine health care and protect against potential financial hardship caused by major health problems.
