Tucson’s median wage for all occupations was $35,430 in 2018, which ranked Tucson eighth among the 12 metropolitan areas tracked on the MAP Dashboard. Denver posted the highest median wage at $45,420, nearly $10,000 more than Tucson. In Tucson, the field of architecture and engineering paid the most, while food preparation and serving occupations paid the least. Occupational wages tell workers which occupations provide the largest payoff, therefore influencing residential location decisions as well as educational choices. Tucson’s median wage has risen slowly since the Great Recession, at just 1.3% per year.
